About The Position

SCA Health is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) Endoscopy to provide perioperative care at San Diego Endoscopy Center. The role develops and implements individualized patient care plans, monitors patients during recovery from moderate sedation and monitored anesthesia care, prepares and maintains endoscopy scopes and instruments, and supports patients and their designated support persons through education and involvement in care decisions. The nurse evaluates patient progress, coordinates transitions of care, documents care, and collaborates with a multidisciplinary team while following facility policies, professional standards, and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Current state nursing licensure in good standing.
Complete Basic Life Support (BLS) or Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) within 90 days of employment, or provide documentation of current certification.
Complete Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) within 90 days of employment, or provide documentation of current certification.

Nice To Haves

One year of GI, operating room, and/or medical-surgical nursing experience is preferred.
Specialty certification in GI Nursing is preferred.
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) is required within 90 days of employment, or current certification must be documented, when pediatric care is included in the facility’s scope of services.

Responsibilities

Develop and implement individualized perioperative patient plans of care, protecting patients from injury and infection and following safety protocols, Universal Protocol, and site validation and time-out policies.
Handle specimens according to facility policy and procedures; use standard precautions and personal protective equipment; maintain aseptic technique; and administer medications using the eight rights of medication administration.
Communicate patients’ current status to relevant parties throughout the continuum of care and provide accurate, concise, pertinent hand-off reports.
Manage recovery from anesthesia, including moderate sedation and monitored anesthesia care; assess patient status at required intervals; and provide nursing care and monitoring in accordance with facility policies and procedures.
Perform interventions to maintain or restore tissue perfusion, body-system function, fluid and electrolyte balance, acid-base balance, and normothermia, and to protect patients from infection.
Prepare scopes for use according to policies, procedures, and manufacturer instructions; maintain endoscopy instruments and accessories; and troubleshoot and recognize malfunctions.
Assess patient or support-person knowledge and provide education about expected psychosocial responses, nutrition, medications, pain management, and expected responses to procedures.
Involve patients or designated support persons in decisions about perioperative care and rehabilitation; protect patients’ rights, dignity, privacy, and confidentiality; and provide age-specific, culturally competent, ethical care within legal standards.
Evaluate patient progress toward outcomes and transfer care when applicable.
Delegate tasks in accordance with applicable nursing practice acts, regulations, laws, and job descriptions.
Document episodes of care accurately, promptly, completely, and legibly.
Communicate and collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders, serve on a multidisciplinary care-planning team, and use problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills to foster effective working relationships.
Participate in quality review and performance improvement projects, the performance appraisal process, team meetings, trainings, and daily safety huddles.
Maintain required competencies, pursue professional growth, demonstrate fiscal responsibility, comply with SCA and facility policies and applicable standards, and perform other duties as assigned.
