About The Position

Collaborates with physicians to develop and implement a plan of care aimed at returning patients to optimal health. Provides direct bedside nursing care and executes medical orders. Manages and oversees the work of various support staff including Nurse Assistants, Patient Care Associates, OB Care Associates, Surgical Service Assistants, Nursing Clerks, and Psychiatric Technicians. Evaluates the effectiveness of the patient care plan and assumes a leadership role in integrating evidence-based practices, delegating tasks, and coordinating nursing care. Facilitates patient conferences and identifies patient teaching needs for ongoing care and discharge/transfer. The role also involves professional growth through educational opportunities and mentoring new employees and students, functioning as a team leader to ensure appropriate patient placement and assignment delegation.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and holding a current license to practice in the state of Michigan.
  • Must satisfactorily complete ACLS course and Basic Neuroscience course; required within first 6 months of hire/transfer.
  • Must satisfactorily complete first available Basic Dysrhythmia course
  • Must complete TNCC (Trauma Nurse Certification) within one (1) year of hire/transfer
  • Must complete ENPC within two (2) years of hire/transfer

Nice To Haves

  • Six (6) months experience in an acute care setting or equivalent preferred
  • Critical Care Nurse preferred

Responsibilities

  • Integrating evidence-based knowledge into practice.
  • Delegation and coordination of tasks and assignments of nursing care.
  • Facilitates/participates in patient conferences.
  • Identifies and provides the means to meet patients’ ongoing and discharge/transfer teaching needs by communicating with the appropriate resource persons and attending discharge/transfer planning conferences.
  • Assumes the responsibility for professional growth by seeking out educational opportunities and utilizing programs in the hospital or elsewhere in the community.
  • Teaches and/or guides professional and ancillary personnel.
  • Precepts/mentors new employees and students.
  • Functions as a team leader to ensure proper patient placement and delegation of assignments.
