About The Position
Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center is hiring for a Full Time Registered Nurse, Emergency Department (New Grads Welcome)! This is a Direct Care Registered Nurse position in the Emergency Department with a 6-month fellowship program designed for new graduates. The fellowship includes classroom sessions, simulation labs, hands-on experience with a preceptor, peer networking, and exposure to evidence-based practice principles using ENA modules. The Registered Nursing (RN) is responsible to perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. The standards of practice and professional performance encompass the actions and foundation of professional nursing. The RN possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas. The Emergency Department is a 37-bed facility that sees a wide range of acute and emergent diagnoses, is a Level III Trauma Center, and a certified Primary Stroke Center. The team cares for pediatric to geriatric patients and specializes in respiratory, cardiac, septic, and behavioral health. This role is ideal for someone excited about working in a high-acuity, fast-paced environment.
Requirements
- Must be scheduled to graduate and obtain RN licensure prior to the August 9 start date.
- Registered Nurse (RN) License - Compact/Multi-State License OR Registered Nurse (RN) License - Single State – Virginia
- Basic Life Support (BLS) - Certification - American Heart Association (AHA) within 90 days of hire.
- ACLS & PALS or ENPC within 1 year of hire for Emergency Care.
- BSN or MSN preferred.
Nice To Haves
- Prior Emergency Department or EMT experience preferred, including: ED Technicians currently working in the ER, EMTs actively working as first-line responders, Nursing students who completed their preceptorship in the Emergency Department, LPNs who are currently working in a hospital setting.
Responsibilities
- Perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process.
- Adhere to the standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation).
- Adhere to the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health).
- Utilize clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.
- Participate in the 6-month Emergency Department Fellowship program, including classroom sessions, simulation labs, and hands-on experience with a nurse preceptor.
