About The Position

Cedar Hill Regional Medical Center GW Health is the first new full-service hospital in Washington, DC in more than 20 years, integrating clinical care with existing community providers, Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC’s), The George Washington University Hospital, and our Urgent Care Center in Ward 8. This integrated delivery system is a robust network of care for all District residents, but more importantly, it ensures that residents of Wards 7 and 8 have access to high quality care in their community. This full-service hospital includes 136 beds (with the ability to expand to 184 beds), a verified trauma center, adult and pediatric emergency departments, maternal health and newborn delivery, an ambulatory pavilion for clinic visits and other outpatient services, a 500-car garage, and a helipad for emergency transport. We are seeking an experienced Emergency Registered Nurse (Full Time - Nights). The Emergency Room Registered Nurse (ER RN) provides direct and individualized nursing care to patients presenting with urgent, emergent, and life-threatening conditions. The ER RN utilizes critical thinking, rapid assessment, and clinical judgment to stabilize patients and coordinate care in a fast-paced emergency department environment. This role collaborates closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, efficient, and compassionate patient care in alignment with hospital standards and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • DC RN License required.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of recent Emergency Department nursing experience preferred.
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) preferred.
  • NIH Stroke Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive nursing assessments for patients presenting with acute illnesses, injuries, and emergencies.
  • Prioritize patient care based on acuity using triage principles and emergency nursing standards.
  • Administer medications, IV therapy, blood products, and treatments safely and accurately.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and document patient conditions, responses to treatment, and changes in status.
  • Initiate emergency interventions for trauma, cardiac, respiratory, neurological, and other critical conditions.
  • Operate and monitor emergency equipment including cardiac monitors, defibrillators, ventilators, and infusion pumps.
  • Collaborate with physicians, specialists, EMS personnel, and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care plans.
  • Assist with emergency procedures including intubation, conscious sedation, trauma resuscitation, and code response.
  • Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, discharge instructions, and follow-up care.
  • Maintain accurate and timely electronic medical record documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with infection prevention, patient safety, and regulatory standards.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, departmental meetings, and continuing education activities.
  • Serve as a patient advocate while delivering compassionate, culturally competent care.
