About The Position

Under the direction of, and in collaboration with unit management, performs responsibilities exercising initiative, judgment and independent decision-making within the scope of the State Nurse Practice Act, hospital policy and other governing organizations. Utilizes the nursing process (assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation) in a systematic approach to the direct and indirect care of patients and their families.

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Minnesota.
At least 1 year of experience working in an Emergency Department is required.
Successful completion of a criminal background check as required by the State of Minnesota.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required at hire.
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required at hire.
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required within 6 months of hire.
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required within 1 year of hire.

Responsibilities

Provides care in Obstetrics, Pediatrics, Medical, Surgical (inpatient/outpatient), Emergency, Senior Care, Nursery, Chemotherapy and Ambulance Transport as needed/delegated.
Maintains certifications in all areas within scope of practice.
Supervises LPNs, Nursing Assistants and Health Unit Coordinators as needed.
Demonstrates effective interviewing and assessment skills and integrates new or current techniques to obtain physical/psycho-social information from the patient/family to plan, implement, and evaluate patient care through the nursing process.
Initiates and maintains patient care plan to reflect current patient needs utilizing computerized documentation.
Performs with minimal supervision, exercises good judgment to reduce errors.
Demonstrates willingness to work extra shifts if needed.

Attends annual skills fair.
Uses personal protective equipment that is appropriate for the given task.
Reports accidents or incidents and safety hazards promptly.

Maintains proper computerized documentation at all times, including admission, discharge, medication administration, teaching, activities of daily living and accurate intake/output.
Identifies needs and concerns involving safety/risk management and quality improvement issues, participates in the research, action, and evaluation of proposed resolutions/interventions.
