The Electrophysiology (EP) labs are invasive procedural units providing diagnostic and interventional services. There are 4 labs, 3 with x-ray capabilities and 1 for ancillary EP procedures. Procedures include pacemaker, automatic defibrillator, and left atrial occlusion implants, as well as ablations for atrial fibrillation, supraventricular tachycardias, ventricular tachycardias, and atrial flutter. Physicians in the EP lab are at the cutting edge of technology and have a robust research team, participating in studies and being among the first to perform advanced procedures. Various mapping modalities are used, including biosense webster, abbott precision, and boston scientific rhythmia. The patient populations served range from outpatient to critical care, treating both acute and chronic conditions. The lab primarily serves the adult population but also has a growing pediatric congenital population. The academic environment offers ample opportunities for learning and skill growth through regular in-services and lectures. The Clinical Nurse I job integrates technical skills and theoretical knowledge to meet patient and family needs, assists the healthcare team with illness prevention, wellness maintenance, and comfort provision. This role provides direction, education, and begins to acquire leadership skills at the unit level. It involves delivering and accurately documenting direct, age-specific care based on medical orders and a multidisciplinary plan, and safely administering medications while identifying incompatibilities and interactions. The Clinical Nurse II job demonstrates mastery of clinical skills and applies this knowledge to a specific patient population. It assists the healthcare team with illness prevention, wellness maintenance, and comfort provision. This role recognizes changes in patient situations and intervenes appropriately, mobilizes resources to meet individualized patient/family needs, and provides direction, education, and assumes leadership responsibilities at the unit level. It involves delivering and accurately documenting direct, age-specific care based on medical orders and a multidisciplinary plan, and safely administering medications while identifying incompatibilities and interactions. The Clinical Nurse III job demonstrates clinical knowledge at the unit level and applies this knowledge to a specific patient population. It assists the healthcare team with illness prevention, wellness maintenance, and comfort provision. This role anticipates changes in patient situations and intervenes appropriately, provides direction, education, and serves as a role model in a clinical setting.
