About The Position

The Electrophysiology (EP) labs are invasive procedural units providing diagnostic and interventional services. There are 4 labs, 3 with x-ray capabilities and 1 for ancillary EP procedures. Procedures include pacemaker, automatic defibrillator, and left atrial occlusion implants, as well as ablations for atrial fibrillation, supraventricular tachycardias, ventricular tachycardias, and atrial flutter. Physicians in the EP lab are at the cutting edge of technology and have a robust research team, participating in studies and being among the first to perform advanced procedures. Various mapping modalities are used, including biosense webster, abbott precision, and boston scientific rhythmia. The patient populations served range from outpatient to critical care, treating both acute and chronic conditions. The lab primarily serves the adult population but also has a growing pediatric congenital population. The academic environment offers ample opportunities for learning and skill growth through regular in-services and lectures. The Clinical Nurse I job integrates technical skills and theoretical knowledge to meet patient and family needs, assists the healthcare team with illness prevention, wellness maintenance, and comfort provision. This role provides direction, education, and begins to acquire leadership skills at the unit level. It involves delivering and accurately documenting direct, age-specific care based on medical orders and a multidisciplinary plan, and safely administering medications while identifying incompatibilities and interactions. The Clinical Nurse II job demonstrates mastery of clinical skills and applies this knowledge to a specific patient population. It assists the healthcare team with illness prevention, wellness maintenance, and comfort provision. This role recognizes changes in patient situations and intervenes appropriately, mobilizes resources to meet individualized patient/family needs, and provides direction, education, and assumes leadership responsibilities at the unit level. It involves delivering and accurately documenting direct, age-specific care based on medical orders and a multidisciplinary plan, and safely administering medications while identifying incompatibilities and interactions. The Clinical Nurse III job demonstrates clinical knowledge at the unit level and applies this knowledge to a specific patient population. It assists the healthcare team with illness prevention, wellness maintenance, and comfort provision. This role anticipates changes in patient situations and intervenes appropriately, provides direction, education, and serves as a role model in a clinical setting. It involves delivering and accurately documenting direct, age-specific care based on medical orders and a multidisciplinary plan, and safely administering medications while identifying incompatibilities and interactions.

Requirements

  • Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible or compact state
  • Current RN licensure in Virginia, AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent
  • Diploma or Associates Degree from a professional nursing program recognized and/or approved by the corresponding state’s Board of Nursing.
  • All registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) will be required to enroll in an approved RN to BSN program within two years of their start date and to complete the program within five years of their start date unless grandfathered under previous requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as an LPN, nursing assistant or care partner in either an acute care setting or as applicable to area of practice (for Clin I)
  • Academic Health Care Experience; Experience with similar patient population in either an acute care setting or as applicable to area of practice (for Clin II, Clin III)
  • Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (or higher) from an accredited program
  • Certification in specialty area (for Clin III)

Responsibilities

  • Organizes work and delegates and supervises others (RN's, LPN's, Care Partners, Unit Secretaries, etc.) in carrying out assignments.
