About The Position

The Registered Nurse - Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) position is a PRN role within the Behavioral Health department at UAB St. Vincent's East. This role involves providing direct patient care to behavioral health patients, performing bio-psychosocial assessments, and developing nursing plans of care. The nurse will participate in treatment team conferences, implement nursing plans, and evaluate patient responses to interventions. This position specifically supports the ECT service, acting as a recovery nurse to monitor patients post-procedure, including obtaining vital signs, printing cardiac monitor strips, starting IVs, drawing blood, and performing COVID swabs.

Requirements

  • BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
  • Licensed Associate Professional Registered Nurse credentialed from the Alabama Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.
  • Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing AND Required professional licensure at time of hire.
  • Must have one year of RN experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care to behavioral health patients in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Perform initial and on-going bio-psychosocial assessments according to accepted standards of nursing practice.
  • Develop a nursing plan of care consistent with the master treatment plan.
  • Participate in treatment team conferences to assist in planning and revising goals, objectives, and interventions appropriate to the age-related and problem-specific needs of each patient.
  • Implement nursing plan of care for assigned patients.
  • Conduct and/or co-lead group therapy sessions for patients.
  • Evaluate patient's response to interventions and revise nursing plan of care as needed.
  • Collaborate with the treatment team to revise goals, objectives, and interventions appropriate to the changes in patient status.
  • Monitor patients as they are waking up after ECT.
  • Obtain Vital signs x3 for each patient and print a cardiac monitor strip.
  • Start IVs.
  • Draw blood.
  • Swab for COVID.
