About The Position

This full-time Registered Nurse/Educator position is located on the Kahn 3 Step-Down Unit at Atlantic Health Morristown Medical Center. The role involves planning, educational assessment, professional practice, nurse education training and development, orientation and staff development, response to emergency situations, and ensuring compliance with various healthcare standards. The position operates on a day shift from 7 AM to 7 PM.

Requirements

  • Identification of areas for clinical and professional development.
  • Facilitation of learning experiences for staff.
  • Assistance in identifying and counseling staff on job-related issues.
  • Provision of recommendations/documentation related to hiring, termination, and promotion.
  • Ensuring compliance with OSHA, Joint Commission, Board of Health, and hospital standards.
  • Fulfillment of all regulatory, licensure, annual competency, and mandatory training requirements.
  • Development and interpretation of hospital and nursing division philosophies and standards of care.
  • Enforcement of adherence to state nursing regulations and other governing bodies.
  • Participation in patient safety initiatives and performance improvement efforts.
  • Development, implementation, and monitoring of action plans.
  • Maintenance and updating of unit policies and procedures.
  • Prompt recognition of emergency situations.
  • Initiation of appropriate emergency procedures.
  • Knowledge and skill in using emergency equipment.
  • Ensuring emergency equipment is properly checked and maintained.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately document assessments using unit-specific tools in accordance with hospital policies.

  • Serve as a clinical resource to the healthcare team, patients, and families by mentoring, precepting, and actively participating in the orientation of new employees.
  • Engage in huddles, rounding, bedside reports, and team communication to foster collaboration and continuity of care.
  • Promote professional development through advocacy for specialty certification and continuing education.
  • Assess educational and professional development needs using performance improvement data, course evaluations, and needs assessments to establish goals and priorities.
  • Differentiate educational needs from system issues and communicate feedback on staff performance and progress to appropriate leadership.
  • Actively contribute to Unit-Based Shared Governance and interdepartmental committees, serving as a unit liaison when requested and supporting the Magnet journey.
  • Prioritize creating a positive work environment focused on teamwork and recognition of individual excellence.
  • Develop and provide educational programs and conferences for team members.
  • Support socialization, education, and training of novice clinicians by serving as a mentor.
  • Identify strengths and weaknesses in the clinical practice of team members and complete competency assessments, support annual evaluations.
  • Attend monthly Educator meetings and communicate new information.
  • Act as a conduit for new policies and procedures.
  • Facilitate and evaluate unit orientation for new employees with the management team.

  • Act as a liaison for staff regarding educational matters.
