Registered Nurse Educator, Emergency Department - Professional Development Generalist
About The Position
Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is hiring a full-time Registered Nurse, Nursing Professional Development Generalist (Educator) for its Emergency Department, which serves as Hampton Roads’ only Level I Trauma Center. This role offers an opportunity to join a high-performing emergency nursing team focused on clinical skill, teamwork, and making a significant impact on patients and families. The Nurse Professional Development Generalist is responsible for developing and implementing staff education, supporting orientation, practice transitions, and continuing education. They provide foundational education and competency validation to help nurses progress from novice to competent practitioners. This role is accountable for aspects of staff development, continuing education, and professional growth of nursing staff to enhance quality, safety, and patient outcomes, and supports system and hospital performance improvement and evidence-based practice initiatives.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Level Degree, BSN in Registered Nursing Required
- Registered Nurse license required
- Basic Life Support (BLS), ACLS, and PALS required within 90 days of hire
- Two Years of Clinical RN experience Required
Nice To Haves
- NIHSS, TCRN, SCRN, TNCC, CEN preferred
- Emergency Department, Level 1 Trauma experience preferred
- Process Improvement, Project Management, and Nursing Education experience strongly preferred
- NPD-BC Nursing Professional Development Certification
Responsibilities
- Assumes operational responsibility for the development and implementation of staff education within designated population(s).
- Functions as a learning facilitator supporting orientation, practice transitions, and continuing education.
- Provides foundational education competency/skills validation to successfully move nurses from novice to beginner/competent practitioners.
- Accountable for defined aspects of staff development, continuing education, and professional development of nursing staff to improve quality, safety, and patient outcomes.
- Supports system and hospital performance improvement and evidence-based practice projects and initiatives.
