About The Position

Provides professional nursing care through assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation in accordance with facility or department policies and procedures. Directs and manages the care of designated patients, communicates effectively, supports a safe work environment, and maintains clinical and professional competency appropriate to the patient population. This is an onsite Emergency Department role at Lehigh Valley Hospital–Hecktown Oaks, working night shifts on a variable schedule with holiday and weekend rotation.

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
Knowledge and competence reflecting current nursing practice.
Ability to organize and prioritize assignments in the delivery of patient care.
Successful completion of additional orientation programs related to the specialty.
Attainment and maintenance of unit-specific competencies.
Basic computer skills.
American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification, required upon hire.
Pennsylvania Registered Nurse license, required upon hire.
Ability to lift and carry 40–50 lbs., including pushing or pulling patients on beds or stretchers and performing lateral transfers.
Frequent to continuous standing and walking.
Ability to perform role-specific activities such as kneeling, bending, squatting, and CPR.

Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.

Responsibilities

Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for designated patients.
Recognize when collaboration or communication with physicians and interdisciplinary team members is needed, and take action to proactively resolve patient needs.
Synthesize relevant data, information, and knowledge to make decisions that optimize patient outcomes in accordance with ANA Scope and Standards of Practice and the Code of Ethics.
Demonstrate commitment to quality and safety using established policies and procedures and evidence-based practice.
Participate in evidence-based practice and research projects as applicable.
Communicate effectively with patients, significant others, visitors, staff, and professional colleagues using appropriate verbal and non-verbal styles.
Coordinate and provide patient and family education throughout treatment to facilitate effective transitions of care.
Support department, unit, and hospital goals and objectives as a department team member.
Participate in all phases of performance improvement, including organizational and unit-based patient experience goals.
Perform validated technical skills based on clinical specialty and unit practice.
Use technology to optimize alternative modes of care delivery.
Teach and mentor new colleagues and department interns; provide additional precepting as assigned.
Delegate based on team members’ skills and expertise, patient acuity and needs, and team members’ time availability.
Provide input, as requested, for performance appraisals of care delivery team members.
