About The Position

The position provides direct and indirect patient care to diagnostic imaging patients and their families utilizing the nursing processes of comprehensive patient assessment, development and implementation of nursing care plans and patient education, and ongoing evaluation. Delivers holistic and individualized care to all patients in assigned area. Develops, implements, coordinates an optimal interdisciplinary plan of care that incorporates psychological, sociocultural, spiritual, economic, and life-style factors. Fosters and maintains collaborative relationships between patients, their family/support group, physicians, and other healthcare providers through timely and effective communications. Adheres to polices, industry standards, best practices, and applicable laws/regulations and codes to promote a quality, highly reliable patient experience. Engages in continuous growth and development in professional nursing practice. Diagnostic Imaging Departments consists of facilities within outpatient imaging centers. These areas include Diagnostic Radiology, Interventional Radiology, Neuro-Interventional Radiology, Ultrasound, Computerized Tomography (CT), Nuclear Medicine, Positive Emission Tomography (PET), Mammography, Breast Ultrasound Imaging and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MR). Some Departments have Interventional Suites and Ultrasound procedure rooms. Performs all the duties of the lower levels. In addition, meets specific affiliate or collective bargaining agreement requirements outlined for this level.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • RN-Registered Nurse of California
  • BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider
  • 2 years recent relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of current trends in nursing.

  • Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care, taking into consideration protective interventions, development (behavioral and physical) and physiological characteristics specific to the patients.
  • Experience working with ALL age groups.
  • Cardiac Imaging knowledge
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Ability to utilize medical terminology appropriately.

Responsibilities

  • Contact ordering providers to temporarily discontinue medications for modality-specific procedures
  • Responsible for prepping patients (NM, CT, Anesthesia and Fluoro) – check meds, and contraindications for testing
  • Note when diagnoses do not support medical necessity, this may include but not limited to coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) studies, cardiac studies in MRI, Nuc Med, or CT, pacemaker studies, anesthesia need
  • Administering adjunct medications for all modality testing
  • Ability to support difficult IV starts, port access, pediatric IV skill set
  • Responsible for adverse reactions to meds and contrast
  • Responsible for care of patients and staff who injure themselves on or near premises
  • Inserting, maintaining, and removing intravenous lines for safe medication and contrast dye delivery
  • Reviewing allergies, patient history, and physical assessment findings with the patient and medical team prior to surgery
  • Educating patients and family members on pre and post-operative plans and procedures
  • Assisting radiologists during neurological and vascular angiography (setting up supplies, passing guide wires and catheters, preparing sterile trays and equipment, handing over instruments and supplies, etc.)
  • Monitoring for and addressing intraoperative complications (oversedation, cardiac arrhythmia, respiratory decompensation, acid/base imbalance, etc.)
  • Responsible for maintaining crash cart meds and equipment, gas induction equipment (where used), and O2 supplies
  • Emergency management and disaster response for the rapid response team
