About The Position

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse for a Critical Care Stepdown Unit - PVSU (Progressive Ventilator Stepdown Unit). This is a full-time position with 36 hours per week on the day shift. The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for performing a competent level of nursing care using the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care, teaching, health promotion, and evaluation. The RN also adheres to standards of professional performance such as ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice/nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health. The PVSU is a 16-bed step-down unit specializing in the treatment of patients on mechanical ventilators, with most patients coming from an Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The unit focuses on maximizing rehabilitation while continuing to treat the cause of the illness through intensive physical therapy, respiratory care, and mental stimulation. The nurse/patient ratio is 3:1 based on nursing acuity. New graduate RNs are welcome to apply and will participate in an 11-week Transition to Practice program, followed by a 6-month residency program. Requirements

  • Registered Nursing License (Required)
  • Students in the process of obtaining a Registered Nursing License.
  • BLS required within 90 days of hire
  • Degree or Diploma in Registered Nursing (required)
  • None required (for experience)

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science Nursing- BSN or MSN (Preferred)
  • Students in the process of completing an accredited nursing program.
