About The Position

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Richmond Hospital. This is a training opportunity focused on critical care nursing. VCH is committed to enhancing nursing practice and quality of care through initiatives like minimum Nurse to Patient Ratios (mNPRs). The role involves providing nursing care to high-risk critically ill clients with unpredictable outcomes attached to life-support equipment, and/or clients in post-anaesthetic recovery, working both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team. The position emphasizes client and family-centred care, adherence to BCCNM standards, and contributing to a positive learning environment. Successful candidates will be required to complete a post-basic training education program and commit to remaining with VCH for at least 18 months post-training.

Requirements

  • Eligibility for post-basic training education is prioritized to applicants with approximately two years recent acute medical/surgical experience upon critical care program full-time start date.
  • Must successfully complete the post-basic training education prior to working in the Department.
  • Candidates accepting this training opportunity agree to remain with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) as a regular status nurse in the area of nursing applicable to the education program for which they are hired for at least 18 months subsequent to completing training.
  • In the event that a candidate leaves the area of nursing applicable to the education program for which they were hired or VCH in under 18 months, VCH will seek to recover the cost of the program.

Responsibilities

  • Provides nursing care to high risk critically ill clients with unpredictable outcomes attached to life-support equipment, and/or clients in post-anaesthetic recovery, both by working independently and as a member of a interdisciplinary team.

  • Participates on designated hospital committees/teams and approved research projects as assigned.
