About The Position

Under the general direction of the Director, Quality & Safety, the Registered Nurse, Clinical Quality Improvement Specialist II will originate, facilitate, and expedite improvement efforts and education targeted at quality, patient safety, High Reliability Organization (HRO) initiatives, and process improvement activities that support departmental and organizational goals. This role involves utilizing and supporting the implementation of OnPoint Safety Management System (SMS) project management standards, conducting reactive safety work (ACA, DCA, cRCA investigations), and performing proactive risk assessments (FMECA, HAZOP analyses). The specialist will facilitate the identification, investigation, analysis, and management of safety events, oversee SMS project communication, and develop, track, and report quality assurance metrics. They will support quality improvement and patient safety initiatives, participate in clinical process improvement projects, and facilitate multidisciplinary teams. The role also includes developing performance indicators, reviewing metrics, creating action plans, supporting safety and quality system redesign, and participating in hospital-wide committees. Additionally, the specialist will utilize hospital software systems for data analysis and presentation, and regularly communicate findings and recommendations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • One-year Professional experience in quality improvement, performance improvement, or healthcare analytics REQUIRED.
  • Basic understanding of system safety principles.
  • Ability to conduct Safety Event Evaluations (ACA, DCA, cRCA) with guidance.
  • Ability to perform Proactive Risk Assessments (FBD, FMEA) with assistance.
  • Experience supporting quality improvement initiatives.
  • Basic knowledge of Lean Six Sigma principles.
  • Basic data analysis and project management skills.
  • Ability to lead teams through a project lifecycle.
  • Effective presentation and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Originate, facilitate, and expedite improvement efforts and education targeted at quality, patient safety, High Reliability Organization (HRO) initiatives, and process improvement activities.
  • Utilize and support the implementation of the OnPoint Safety Management System (SMS) project management standards, processes, policies, methodologies, and tools.
  • Conduct reactive safety work, including ACA, DCA, and cRCA investigations.
  • Perform proactive risk assessments such as FMECA and HAZOP analyses with guidance from senior Quality & Safety Specialists.
  • Facilitate the identification, investigation, analysis, and management of safety events, near misses, and great catches using safety science principles.
  • Oversee SMS project communication, including written and verbal communications.
  • Develop, track, and report quality assurance, performance, and utilization metrics for SMS initiatives.
  • Support quality improvement and patient safety initiatives that align with organizational goals.
  • Participate in clinical process improvement projects.
  • Facilitate multidisciplinary teams and workgroups.
  • Develop performance indicators, review metrics, and create action plans.
  • Support safety and quality system redesign and pay-for-performance initiatives.
  • Participate in hospital-wide committees, including the Patient Safety Clinical Excellence Council, Scorecard Temporary Action Groups, Quality Assurance Performance Improvement Committees, and other quality and safety committees as assigned.
  • Utilize hospital and departmental software systems to input, retrieve, analyze, and present data.
  • Regularly communicate findings and recommendations based on data analysis.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
