About The Position

This role involves providing comprehensive patient care within a Day Surgery setting, functioning as an Intra-Operative RN (Circulating and/or Scrub RN) and a Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) RN. The position requires planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care plans to optimize outcomes and manage resources effectively. Key responsibilities include monitoring patient conditions, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, educating patients and families, and delegating care to ancillary personnel. The role demands critical thinking, decisive judgment, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment, adhering to professional standards and organizational policies.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
Must successfully pass a background check.
Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen and breath alcohol test (if applicable).
Must complete an Employee Health meeting prior to starting employment.

Nice To Haves

RN license
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
Experience in Day Surgery, Intra-Operative (Circulating/Scrub), or PACU settings.
Knowledge of Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) standards.
Knowledge of Association of Peri-Anesthesia Nurses (ASPAN) standards.

Responsibilities

Plans, implements, and evaluates patient care plans based on patient assessment to optimize outcomes and maximize available resources while functioning as a Day Surgery RN, Intra-Operative RN (Circulating and/or Scrub RN), PACU RN.
Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate.
Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral, and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
Identifies barriers to effective communication based on psychosocial, literacy, financial, and cultural considerations.
Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
Effectively delegates patient care to ancillary personnel.
May precept student nurses and new hires.
Employs critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, and take appropriate action.
Adheres to Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) standards, Association of Peri-Anesthesia Nurses (ASPAN) standards, and recommended practices and all policies of MRH and the Surgical Services department.
Consistently ready and prepared for assigned patients.
Ensures Perioperative Patient Verification is complete (History and Physical (H&P) examination information present, informed consent signed, test results present, surgical site identified, etc.) before the patient is taken into the surgical suite.
Appropriately responds to the patient in an emergency situation, demonstrating emergency interventions following Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) algorithms, policies, and procedures.
Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
Performs other duties as assigned.
