About The Position

The OR Circulating Registered Nurse monitors the procedures in the operating room during surgery and assists as an intermediary between the physicians and operating room staff members. This role involves preparing patients and the operating room before surgery, working closely with scrub nurses and surgeons to maintain the sterile field, and assessing patient conditions and needs throughout the procedure. The nurse collaborates with physicians and anesthesiologists to develop care plans, ensures the surgical area remains clean and organized, removes instruments and sponges, and guarantees patient safety. Additionally, the role requires precise documentation, dispensing supplies and medication, handling specimens and special apparatus, and adhering to all facility policies and procedures. The nurse must demonstrate regular and predictable attendance.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing
  • Current licensure to practice in the State of Texas
  • Successful completion of Basic Cardiac Life Support Course
  • ALCS required
  • Competence in assessing, treating and caring for patients based on age-specific needs
  • Ability to set priorities and provide direction to others that promotes efficiency on the unit
  • Ability to correlate clinical data with patient’s medical and nursing care
  • Effective communication and positive interpersonal skills
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality
  • Ability to transcribe physicians orders accurately and read labels and instructions completely

Nice To Haves

  • PALS preferred
  • Knowledge and experience in PACU nursing or critical care
  • Knowledge and experience in ASC, operating room or ASC nursing care
  • Two years’ experience in perioperative nursing preferred

Responsibilities

  • Prepares patients for surgical procedures and handles the preparation for the operating room before the surgery
  • Works side by side with scrub nurses and directly with the surgeon to help maintain the sterile field in the operating room
  • Assesses the patient’s condition and address their needs before and during surgery
  • Works with physicians and anesthesiologists to develop a care plan for the patient during surgery
  • Ensures all sterile fields are not compromised during the procedure by keeping the surgical area clean and organized
  • Removes instruments and sponges as they are used during the procedure
  • Ensures patient safety during the procedure
  • Keeps precise documentation throughout the procedure
  • Dispenses supplies and medication as needed
  • Handles specimens and special apparatus
  • Adheres to all Round Rock Surgery Center policies and procedures
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance
