Registered Nurse Casual - Post Anesthesia Care Unit
About The Position
This position collaborates with physicians to develop and implement a plan of care aimed at returning the patient to optimal health. The Registered Nurse provides direct bedside nursing care, executes medical orders, and oversees the functions of various support staff including Nurse Assistants, Patient Care Associates, OB Care Associates, Surgical Service Assistants, Nursing Clerks, and Psychiatric Technicians. The role also involves evaluating the effectiveness of the care plan and assuming a leadership role in integrating evidence-based practice, delegating and coordinating nursing care tasks, facilitating patient conferences, and identifying patient teaching needs for ongoing care and discharge. Professional growth is encouraged through educational opportunities, and the nurse will teach and mentor ancillary personnel, new employees, and students. Additionally, the role functions as a team leader to ensure appropriate patient placement and assignment delegation.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and holding a current license to practice in the state of Michigan.
- CPR issued by American Heart Association or Red Cross Certification.
- Minimum one (1) year of comparable experience for the unit they are hired into.
- Must possess the same qualifications as required by regular staff in the unit to which they have been hired.
Responsibilities
- Integrates evidence-based knowledge into practice.
- Delegates and coordinates tasks and assignments of nursing care.
- Facilitates/participates in patient conferences.
- Identifies and provides the means to meet patients’ ongoing and discharge/transfer teaching needs by communicating with the appropriate resource persons and attending discharge/transfer planning conferences.
- Assumes the responsibility for professional growth by seeking out educational opportunities and utilizing programs in the hospital or elsewhere in the community.
- Teaches and/or guides professional and ancillary personnel.
- Precepts/mentors new employees and students.
- Functions as a team leader to ensure proper patient placement and delegation of assignments.
- Provides bedside nursing care and carries out medical orders.
- Delegates to and oversees Nurse Assistant, Patient Care Associate, OB Care Associate, Surgical Service Assistant, Nursing Clerk and Psychiatric Tech functions.
- Responsible for evaluating effectiveness of care plan.
