Registered Nurse - Post Anesthesia Care Unit
About The Position
This role involves collaborating with physicians to develop and implement a plan of care aimed at returning patients to optimal health. The Registered Nurse provides direct bedside nursing care, executes medical orders, and oversees the work of nursing assistants and other support staff. Key responsibilities include evaluating the effectiveness of the care plan, leading nursing care coordination, and ensuring patient needs are met throughout their stay and upon discharge or transfer. The position also emphasizes professional growth through continuous learning and mentorship of new staff and students.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and holding a current license to practice in the state of Michigan.
- BLS issued by American Heart Association or Red Cross Certification
- Must satisfactorily complete the first available Basic Dysrhythmia course
- Must satisfactorily complete ACLS course within one year of hire/transfer
- Six (6) months experience in an acute care setting or equivalent

- Previous experience in Surgical Services area
- Proficient in IV starts.

Responsibilities
- Collaborates with physician to provide a plan of care that will return the patient to optimal health.
- Provides bedside nursing care and carries out medical orders.
- Delegates to and oversees Nurse Assistant, Patient Care Associate, OB Care Associate, Surgical Service Assistant, Nursing Clerk and Psychiatric Tech functions.
- Responsible for evaluating effectiveness of care plan.
- Assumes responsibility for a leadership role encompassing: Integrating evidence-based knowledge into practice.
- Delegation and coordination of tasks and assignments of nursing care.
- Facilitates/participates in patient conferences.
- Identifies and provides the means to meet patients’ ongoing and discharge/transfer teaching needs by communicating with the appropriate resource persons and attending discharge/transfer planning conferences.
- Assumes the responsibility for professional growth by seeking out educational opportunities and utilizing programs in the hospital or elsewhere in the community.
- Teaches and/or guides professional and ancillary personnel.
- Precepts/mentors new employees and students.
- Functions as a team leader to ensure proper patient placement and delegation of assignments.
