About The Position

This position collaborates with physicians to develop and implement a plan of care aimed at returning patients to optimal health. The Registered Nurse provides direct bedside nursing care, administers medical orders, and oversees the functions of various support staff including Nurse Assistants, Patient Care Associates, and others. A key responsibility is evaluating the effectiveness of the patient's care plan.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current license to practice in the state of Michigan.
  • Must satisfactorily complete the first available basic dysrhythmia course.
  • NIHSS Certification (must be obtained within twelve months of hire/transfer if not current).
  • ACLS certification (must be obtained within one year of hire/transfer).
  • BLS issued by American Heart Association or Red Cross Certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Six (6) months of experience in an acute care setting or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Assume a leadership role in integrating evidence-based practice, delegating and coordinating nursing care tasks, and facilitating patient conferences.
  • Identify and address patients' ongoing and discharge/transfer teaching needs by collaborating with appropriate resources and attending planning conferences.
  • Pursue professional growth through educational opportunities.
  • Teach and guide professional and ancillary personnel, and precept new employees and students.
  • Function as a team leader to ensure appropriate patient placement and assignment delegation.
  • Communicate relevant information effectively and understandably.
  • Demonstrate organizational skills through effective planning.
  • Utilize the nursing process (Assessment, Planning, Implementation, Evaluation) throughout hospitalization, involving patients and families in the plan of care.
  • Administer medications safely according to established procedures.
  • Respond to emergency and disaster situations according to policy.
  • Maintain a safe patient care environment.
  • Demonstrate competency in basic and specific skills and equipment utilization.
  • Collect and analyze data related to patient care or unit activities.
  • Provide age-specific care for newborns, infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
  • Participate in quality improvement and nursing research activities.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
