About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Operating Room at Mayo Clinic in Florida circulates and coordinates the surgical team in all aspects of OR activities, providing for optimum perioperative nursing care to patients. The OR RN may also be asked to scrub as needed and functions as the patient's advocate. The state-of-the-art hospital in Jacksonville boasts 34 operating rooms, including an IMRI OR suite and a dedicated endovascular OR suite, utilizing modern equipment and advanced technologies. For those without prior OR experience, the Periop 101 program is available, with upcoming cohort dates to be determined. The RN is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, encompassing direct patient care, patient/family education, and transitions of care. This role supports professional nursing practice across various settings and the continuum of care, operating within the Mayo Nursing Care Model. The RN is responsible for planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients, adhering to the ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice. Leadership is demonstrated through roles such as preceptor, informal and formal leadership, and quality improvement efforts. The RN delegates patient care based on skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability, and resource availability. The position requires excellent communication skills, mentoring and teaching abilities, and potential participation in committees or projects. This role is eligible for TN sponsorship, which requires state licensure and completion of the VisaScreen or equivalent certification.

Requirements

  • All associate degree or diploma registered nurses hired into the Department of Nursing with a RN start date after April 1, 2020, must provide documented evidence of program completion of their baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program within 5 years from the last day of the month of their RN start date.
  • All entry-level associate degree registered nurses with a RN start date prior to April 1, 2020 must provide documented evidence of program completion of a baccalaureate degree in nursing program as stipulated by the degree requirement program in place at time of hire.
  • Must live within a reasonable driving distance to campus to meet 45-minute on-call requirement.
  • Graduate of a nursing program.
  • Experience in both a Scrubbing and Circulating role is required.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Experience working in a team environment.
  • Computer skills required.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, which may include days, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends and on-call.
  • Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting.
  • Demonstrated leadership, effective communicator, and excellent critical thinking skills.
  • Current RN license by applicable state requirements.
  • Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency.
  • Additional specialty certification/training as required by the work area.
  • Successful TN sponsorship will require state licensure and completion of the VisaScreen or equivalent certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate of a baccalaureate nursing program.
  • One year of RN experience in an applicable care setting.
  • Prior experience with electronic medical record systems.
