About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Cardiac Telemetry department at Texas Health Southwest provides telemetry and Med/Surg level of care for adult to geriatric patients with general medical/surgical, endocrine, and GI/renal conditions. The department has a 28-bed capacity with a patient-to-nurse ratio of 5:1 on both day and night shifts. This is a full-time position with 36 hours per week, working 12-hour shifts from 7 PM to 7 AM. Texas Health Southwest is a MAGNET facility and a Level III Trauma Center.

Requirements

  • Nursing Diploma or Associate Degree in Nursing required; BSN preferred.
  • Current RN licensure or compact licensure recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing upon hire.
  • BCLS – prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly required.
  • ACLS – within 90 days of hire required.
  • CPI – Crisis Prevention Intervention Training – within 90 days of hire required.
  • 1-year experience as a registered nurse or completion of an RN residency program required.
  • Demonstrates a high degree of confidentiality, positive interpersonal skills, and ability to function in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exhibits understanding of basic human needs.
  • Demonstrates recognition and understanding of patient’s affiliations.

Nice To Haves

  • Current Telemetry and/or Med/Surg experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Delivers care to patients utilizing the Nursing Process: assesses the patient, plans the care of the patient, intervenes as appropriate, evaluates the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Incorporates age-specific safety/infection control measures into patient care.
  • Initiates action to meet patient and/or significant others need for information.
  • Maintains continuity of patient care inter-shift, inter-hospital, and while expediting out of hospital transfers.
  • Delivers high-quality patient care through nursing education, nursing research, and innovations in nursing practice.
