About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Cardiac Telemetry department at Texas Health Southwest provides telemetry and Med/Surg level of care for adult to geriatric patients with general medical/surgical, endocrine, and GI/renal conditions. The department has a 28-bed capacity with a patient-to-nurse ratio of 5:1 on both day and night shifts, utilizing 12-hour shifts. This is a PRN/per diem position for the night shift.

Requirements

  • Nursing Diploma or Associate Degree in Nursing required
  • Current RN licensure or compact licensure recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing upon hire
  • BCLS – prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly required
  • 1-year experience as a registered nurse or completion of an RN residency program required

Nice To Haves

  • BSN preferred
  • ACLS – within 90 days of hire required
  • CPI – Crisis Prevention Intervention Training – within 90 days of hire
  • Current Telemetry experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Delivers care to patients utilizing the Nursing Process: assesses the patient, plans the care of the patient, intervenes as appropriate, evaluates the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Incorporates age specific safety/infection control measures into patient care.
  • Initiates action to meet patient and/or significant others need for information.
  • Maintains continuity of patient care inter-shift, inter-hospital, and while expediting out of hospital transfers.
  • Delivers high quality of patient care through nursing education, nursing research and innovations in nursing practice.
