Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is seeking a Registered Nurse for their Cardiac Surgery Stepdown unit on nights. This role involves applying the nursing process to plan and implement patient care, including education and continuum of care planning. The nurse will communicate patient information to the healthcare team, collaborate on patient goals, and evaluate progress. Professional growth is encouraged through learning activities aligned with Board of Nursing standards. The position is on the 5 South unit, a 24-bed unit caring for adult patients recovering from complex cardiac surgery conditions. This unit offers an excellent environment for nurses passionate about cardiac care and eager to grow their clinical expertise in a supportive, collaborative setting. The patient population includes those with Coronary Artery Disease, Heart Failure, Arrhythmias, and those undergoing Pre- and Post-Cardiac Procedures such as CABG and Surgical Valve procedures. The unit emphasizes advanced clinical exposure, strong night shift support with accessible leadership and experienced peers, comprehensive orientation (6-9 weeks with cardiac-focused education and precepted shifts), growth opportunities into Charge, RSL, or CSL pathways, and a team-oriented culture focused on communication, mutual support, and continuous improvement.
