About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Cardiac PCU at Texas Health Southwest will deliver care to patients utilizing the Nursing Process, including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation. This role incorporates age-specific safety and infection control measures, initiates actions to meet patient information needs, and maintains continuity of patient care between shifts, hospitals, and during transfers. The department is a 36-bed Cardiac PCU serving an intermediate/telemetry level of care for post-acute cardiac, general medical, endocrine, GI/renal patient populations. This is a full-time night shift position with a nurse/patient ratio of 1:4 depending on acuity. The facility is a MAGNET facility, Level III Trauma Center, and a Primary Stroke center.

Requirements

Nursing Diploma or Associate Degree in Nursing required
Current RN licensure or compact licensure recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing upon hire
CLIAFE - Must comply with CLIA regulations regarding foreign education equivalency
BCLS – prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly
ACLS – within 90 days of hire
CPI – Crisis Prevention Intervention Training – within 90 days of hire
1-year experience as a registered nurse or completion of an RN residency program required
High degree of confidentiality, positive interpersonal skills, and ability to function in a fast-paced environment.
Understanding of basic human needs.
Recognition and understanding of patient’s affiliations.

Nice To Haves

BSN preferred
PCU/Tele and Med/Surg experience preferred

Responsibilities

Delivers care to patients utilizing the Nursing Process: assesses the patient, plans the care of the patient, intervenes as appropriate, evaluates the effectiveness of interventions.
Incorporates age specific safety/infection control measures into patient care.
Initiates action to meet patient and/or significant others need for information.
Maintains continuity of patient care inter-shift, inter-hospital, and while expediting out of hospital transfers.
Delivery of high quality of patient care through nursing education, nursing research and innovations in nursing practice.
