About The Position

Under direction, assists physicians with patient care, health education/promotion, electronic medical record (EMR) chart management, coordination of patient care, and clinical protocols as needed. This role works as a clinical expert clinician to provide seamless service for patients with heart conditions, involving advanced clinical assessment, symptom management, medications management, patient education, and psychological care.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Nursing
  • Approximately 5 years of clinical nursing experience working in a cardiac diagnostic imaging or cardiac telemetry setting.
  • Extensive experience as a Registered Nurse may be considered in lieu of the BSN.
  • Successful completion of an AHA-sponsored course in advanced cardiovascular life support and renewal on a regular basis
  • Competence in cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • Knowledge of basic cardiovascular and exercise physiology, including hemodynamic response to exercise.
  • Knowledge of cardiac arrhythmias and the ability to recognize and treat serious arrhythmias.
  • Knowledge of cardiovascular drugs and how they can affect exercise performance, hemodynamics and the ECG.
  • Knowledge of the effects of age and disease on hemodynamic and ECG responses to exercise.
  • Knowledge of principles and details of exercise testing, including proper lead placement and skin preparation
  • Current NY State Registered Nurse License & Registration.
  • BLS certification, issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Infection Control Certificate.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes priorities for nursing care through patient assessment and develops nursing care plans.
  • Prepares equipment and assists providers during examination, testing, and treatment of patients as needed.
  • Conducts exercise and pharmacologic cardiac stress testing in accordance with protocols and accreditation guidelines.
  • Prepares patient for stress testing procedure, including patient interviews, obtaining medical history, obtaining patient consent and signatures, and conducting patient teaching related to nuclear imaging procedure including risks and complications.
  • Operates appropriate exercise equipment and monitors patient prior to, during, and immediately following exam including hemodynamic measurements and status and respiratory parameters.
  • Identifying any cardiac arrhythmias and/or ECG changes that may suggest cardiac ischemia or ST segment elevation or depression.
  • Communicates changes in the patient’s status to the authorized provider and other members of the health care team as necessary.
  • Implements, as indicated, emergency measures to optimize the patient’s respiratory and circulatory status until other qualified healthcare personnel can assume care of patient.
  • Starts IVs for administration of radioactive agents.
  • Administers medications; educates patients and staff on pharmacologic/drug effects and protocol requirements.
  • Coordinates multidisciplinary health care services and arranges diagnostic tests as ordered by physician(s) when needed.
  • Performs inpatient diagnostic testing, therapeutic, and interventional procedures in conjunction with physician as needed.
  • Triages patient inquiries and communicates test results.
  • Ensures infection control compliance within the practice.
  • Participates in safety programs and orientation of new staff.
  • Assists in reviewing and revising policies and procedures.
  • May be responsible for the precertification and preauthorization of prescriptions.
  • Records medical information within the patients’ electronic medical record as appropriate.
  • Attends workshops, seminars and/or conferences to keep abreast of standards and best practices within the field.
  • Disseminates information to colleagues and/or staff as appropriate.
  • Assesses patient eligibility and reviews patient medical history for inclusion in clinical studies.
  • Reviews and completes protocol history sheets, flow sheets, study follow-up reports and patient evaluation forms.
  • Prepares and amends IRB protocols, consent forms and research documents.
