About The Position

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) for the Burn Trauma, Intermediate Care - Medical/Surgical Unit. This unit is a 34-bed mixed Intermediate Care and Medical/Surgical unit, with 17 beds for stepdown/intermediate care and 17 beds for Medical/Surgical care. The patient population includes neurosurgery, trauma, burns, orthopedic trauma, and bariatric weight loss patients. Nurses on this unit are trained to work both the intermediate and medical surgical sides. The nurse to patient ratio for Intermediate Care beds is 3 to 4, and for Medical/Surgical beds is 5 to 6. The RN is responsible for performing a competent level of nursing care using the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care, teaching, health promotion, and evaluation. Professional performance standards encompass ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice/nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health. The RN possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards required by specific clinical areas. New graduate RNs are welcome and will participate in an 11-week Transition to Practice program, which is the start of a comprehensive 6-month residency program for new graduates.

Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Registered Nursing (required)
  • Registered nursing License (Required)
  • Students in the process of obtaining a Registered Nursing License.
  • BLS required within 90 days of hire
  • None required (for experience)

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science Nursing- BSN or MSN (Preferred)
  • Students in the process of completing an accredited nursing program.
