The Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Coordinator is responsible for the coordination of the evaluation and preparation of patients for Hematopoietic Stem Cell transplantation (HSC) and cellular therapies. This role involves coordinating patient care across outpatient clinics, inpatient nursing units, and the community to ensure continuity of care. Independent thinking, problem-solving, and innovation are required to address complex issues and apply appropriate interventions. The BMT Coordinator serves as a clinical resource for team members, patients/families/caregivers, referring case managers, and community clinicians, with supervision provided by the BMT Program Manager and physicians. Strong organizational skills and problem-solving abilities are essential for independently planning daily schedules, prioritizing clinical issues, and managing multiple patients through various stages of the transplant/cellular therapy process. The role also involves aiding other program staff and participating in program development, research, and educational activities. The BMT Coordinator must possess knowledge of the management and care of patients with hematologic malignancies and other diseases treated with HSC transplantation and cellular therapies, including disease pathophysiology, diagnostic testing, treatment eligibility, conditioning regimens, immunosuppressive regimens, side effects, and supportive care protocols. Additionally, knowledge of evaluation and eligibility criteria for autologous, related, and unrelated donors, as well as cell collection methods, side effects, and management is required.
