About The Position

This role supports plasma center operations by determining donor eligibility, managing adverse events, reviewing lab results, and notifying donors of unsuitable test results. The Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) works under the guidance of the Center Manager for operational matters and the Center Physician for medical issues. Familiarity with plasma collection industry regulations or manufacturing environments is expected, along with supporting environmental, health, and safety (EHS) initiatives.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent, including a graduate equivalent of a recognized educational nursing program with state requirements.
• Currently licensed or certified in the state where responsibilities will be assigned: Registered Nurse (RN), Nurse Practitioner (NP), or Physician Assistant (PA).
• Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and AED certification.
• Fulfill state requirements for basic IV therapy.
• Satisfactorily complete the FDA approved training requirements for BioLife Medical Support Specialist.
• Two years in a clinical or hospital setting.

Responsibilities

• Determine donor eligibility, including informed consent, AIDS education, confidential self-exclusion, medical history interviews, acceptance requirements, physical examinations, blood testing, and reviewing Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE).
• Evaluate donor reactions according to SOPs.
• Follow SOPs for medical emergencies, including standing orders from the Center Physician and donor transport to emergency facilities.
• Consult with the Center Physician or Medical Affairs for unacceptable findings, medical/technical issues, and donor safety/eligibility.
• Support employee Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs.
• Manage employee incidents and determine the need for occupational health/ER evaluation.
• Refer to EHS guidance regarding employee incidents.
• Act as a Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and support investigations related to pandemic threats.
• Provide center-level support for environmental, health, and safety (EHS).
