About The Position

The Southern Arizona VA Health Care System (SAVAHCS) located in Tucson AZ serves over 171,000 Veterans located in eight counties in Southern Arizona and one county in Western New Mexico. SAVAHCS is a 295-bed hospital providing primary care and sub-specialty health care in numerous medical areas for eligible Veterans. The patients in this unit carry various psychiatric diagnoses including depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, personality disorders, and cognitive impairment such as dementia. Many patients may be under involuntary and/or court-ordered admissions.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Nursing and eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement provision OR Bachelor's degree in Nursing and at least one full year of professional nursing experience OR Diploma or associate degree in professional nursing
Current, valid, unrestricted nursing license in a state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a Territory of the United States
Minimum of 24 months experience in an emergency department environment during the last 36 months
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as approved by the American Heart Association (AHA)
Evidence of current immunizations

Emergency response procedures
Applying de-escalation techniques to help people manage their emotions and behavior
Providing evidence-based individual support, such as cognitive behavior therapy principles for depression and anxiety
