About The Position

Ankeny Medical Park Surgery Center (AMPSC) is seeking a Registered Nurse for a Full Time position in their ARD/Endo department. This role involves providing patient care in Pre-Op and Post-Op settings, focusing on patient safety, comfort, and recovery. The position operates Monday through Friday with no overnights, weekends, or on-call duties. AMPSC is committed to providing world-class outpatient surgical care in orthopaedics and gastroenterology, partnering with respected institutions like DMOS, IDDC, and Unity Point.

Requirements

  • Current nursing license to practice through the Iowa Department of Public Health
  • Unrestricted IA RN license
  • Basic ACLS Certification
  • BLS
  • Ability to set priorities and work with minimal supervision
  • Excellent organization and communication skills
  • Ability to handle stress calmly and be flexible to change
  • Willingness to be flexible and remain focused during fast-paced schedules
  • Positive, friendly, professional, and data-driven attitude
  • Proactive coaching and consulting skill set
  • Ability to communicate positively and professionally to patients, physicians, mid-levels, administrative professionals, and team members
  • Must successfully complete federal background checks, education verification, reference checks, and an initial TB test.

Nice To Haves

  • ACLS and PALS preferred
  • Experience in a similar related industry or ASC is preferred, but not required
  • Experience in Orthopedics or endo is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Starting and monitoring IVs, administering pre-operative medications, and performing pre-operative instruction and explanation of patient's rights and procedures.
  • Facilitating and demonstrating cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors.
  • Caring for patients recovering from anesthesia after surgery, monitoring post-operation vital signs, assessing levels of consciousness, and observing for any side effects from anesthesia.
  • Supporting the philosophy, goals, and objectives of the Organization.
  • Participating as a team member in support of the total perioperative process.
  • Considering patient rights in performance of job duties and responsibilities.
  • Communicating effectively with supervisor/management, patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers in a respectful and courteous manner.
  • Communicating effectively and professionally using a translator when necessary.
  • Documenting that information received from the patient is disseminated to the appropriate people or departments.
  • Attending and actively participating in meetings, committees, and in-services.
  • Assisting with orientation and training of new personnel and acting as a resource person for patient care problems.
  • Adhering to safety policies and procedures.
  • Reporting observed or suspected violations, hazards, and noncompliance according to Facility policy.
  • Observing safety measures and enforcing compliance with safety and security policies and procedures.
  • Responding to emergency situations with competence and composure.
  • Interacting appropriately with various age groups, assessing and interpreting age-specific patient data and responses.
  • Involving the patient’s family/significant other in decision-making about the patient’s care.
  • Considering age-specific patient requirements when responding to emergency situations.
  • Effectively organizing time, equipment, supplies, and personnel.
  • Organizing nursing activities efficiently, considering staff abilities when delegating activities.
  • Confirming that proper techniques and procedures are used according to accepted standards of practice.
  • Maintaining order and cleanliness of pre/postoperative areas.
  • Performing thorough patient assessment required by the outpatient setting.
  • Assisting in assessing the physical and emotional status of the patient upon admission.
  • Developing a plan for patient care based on assessment data; implementing and documenting preoperative care according to protocol.
  • Informing patient and family about routine care and procedures related to the perioperative experience.
  • Providing comfort and reassurance to the patient and supporting the patient’s right to privacy, dignity, and confidentiality.
  • Performing safe and individualized nursing care for the patient in the immediate postoperative period.
  • Assessing and documenting the patient’s physical and emotional status upon arrival in the postoperative area.
  • Documenting postoperative care during the patient’s recovery from anesthesia/sedation.
  • Providing nursing care to meet patient needs related to surgical condition and type of anesthesia administered.
  • Adhering to organizational policy with particular attention to standards of conduct and confidentiality as it relates to HIPAA.
