About The Position

The Registered Nurse ARD/Endo position is a Full Time (0.9-1.0) role, working 36-40 hours a week, and is benefit eligible. The position operates Monday through Friday in Ankeny, Iowa, with no overnights, weekends, or on-call requests. The role involves patient care in Pre-Op, where the nurse starts and monitors IVs, administers pre-operative medications, and provides pre-operative instructions and explanations of patient's rights and procedures. In Post-Op (PACU), the nurse cares for patients recovering from anesthesia, monitoring vital signs, assessing consciousness, and observing for side effects. The position requires supporting the organization's philosophy, policies, and procedures, participating as a team member, and considering patient rights. Effective communication with supervisors, patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers is essential, as is adherence to safety policies and procedures. The role also involves interacting appropriately with various age groups, effectively organizing time and resources, performing thorough patient assessments, and providing safe and individualized nursing care in the immediate postoperative period. Adherence to organizational policies, including HIPAA, is also required.

Requirements

  • Current nursing license to practice through the Iowa Department of Public Health
  • Maintain a basic ACLS Certification
  • Unrestricted IA RN license
  • BLS
  • Must be able to set priorities and work with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent organization and communication skills.
  • Ability to handle stress calmly and be flexible to change.
  • Willingness to be flexible and remain focused during fast paced schedules.
  • Candidates who receive a conditional offer of employment will be required to complete a criminal background check, and meet certain vaccination requirements.
  • Those offered a role must successfully complete federal background checks, education verification, reference checks, and an initial TB test.

Nice To Haves

  • ACLS and PALS preferred.
  • Experience in a similar related industry or ASC is preferred, but not required.
  • Experience in Orthopedics or endo is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Starting and monitoring IVs
  • Administering pre-operative medications
  • Performing pre-operative instruction and explanation of patient's rights and procedures

  • Assists with orientation and training of new personnel and acts as a resource person for patient care problems.
  • Adheres to safety policies and procedures in performing job duties and responsibilities.
  • Reports observed or suspected violations, hazards and noncompliance according to Facility policy.
  • Observes safety measures in performance of job duties and responsibilities; enforces compliance with safety and security policies and procedures.
  • Responds to emergency situations with competence and composure.
  • Accurately assesses and interprets age-specific patient data.
  • Accurately interprets age-specific patient responses to questions and instructions.
  • Involves the patient’s family/significant other in decision-making about the patient’s care.
  • Considers age-specific patient requirements when responding to emergency situations.
  • Organizes nursing activities efficiently; considers staff abilities when delegating activities.
  • Confirms that proper techniques and procedures are used according to accepted standards of practice.
  • Maintains order and cleanliness of pre/postoperative areas.
  • Assists in assessing the physical and emotional status of the patient upon admission according to Facility policy.
  • Develops a plan for patient care based on assessment data; implements and documents preoperative care according to protocol.
  • Informs patient and family about routine care and procedures related to the perioperative experience.
  • Provides comfort and reassurance to the patient and supports the patient’s right to privacy, dignity, and confidentiality.
  • Assesses and documents the patient’s physical and emotional status upon arrival in the postoperative area.
  • Documents postoperative care during the patient’s recovery from anesthesia/sedation according to Facility policy.
  • Provides nursing care to meet patient needs related to surgical condition and type of anesthesia administered.
  • Adheres to organizational policy with particular attention to standards of conduct and to confidentiality as it relates to HIPAA.
