About The Position

Join UPMC Presbyterian's Adult Acute Care Team on Unit 10 South. This is a 30-bed acuity-adaptable medical unit caring for stepdown and telemetry patients. The unit serves a general medical patient population as well as overflow patients from orthopedics, ENT, hepatology, urology, and abdominal transplant. Unit 10 South is a team-driven unit with a diverse patient population at various levels of acuity, making it a suitable environment for graduate nurses and nurses seeking to gain inpatient experience or expand their clinical knowledge. The division of Adult Acute Care is the largest group admitting patients to the general medicine service at UPMC Presbyterian/Montefiore Hospitals, treating patients of all ages for a wide array of conditions requiring compassionate and expert nursing care.

Requirements

  • Graduate Nurses eligible for State Board Licensure
  • Staff Nurses with nursing experience
  • Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse
  • CPR required based on AHA standards (didactic and skills demonstration within 30 days of hire)
  • ACLS required within 12 months of beginning employment
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support
  • Mobility and visual manual dexterity
  • Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting and positioning of patients

Nice To Haves

  • BSN-preferred
  • UPMC approved national certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide compassionate and expert nursing care to a diverse patient population with a wide array of conditions.
  • Care for stepdown and telemetry patients.
  • Manage general medical patients and overflow patients from various specialties.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and interact appropriately with patients of all ages.
  • Assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret information to identify age-specific needs.
  • Establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with colleagues, providers, and patients/families.
  • Work productively and effectively in a complex environment, handling multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment.
  • Utilize clinical judgment with critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving abilities related to patient care.
  • Apply the nursing process, exercising critical thinking skills.
  • Perform frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients.
