Registered Nurse, Acute Surgical Care Stepdown, Days - VUH
About The Position
Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is seeking a Registered Nurse for its new Acute Surgical Care Stepdown unit on 10N. This 31-bed unit will provide stepdown care to adult patients awaiting or recovering from surgery. The role involves applying the nursing process to plan and implement patient care, including education and continuum of care planning. Nurses will collaborate with the healthcare team, establish patient goals, and evaluate progress. The position emphasizes professional growth and adherence to Board of Nursing standards. This is an inpatient/bedside position serving patients including Emergency General Surgery (EGS), Pre- and Post-Operative Surgical Patients, and Trauma and Med-Surg Overflow. The unit fosters a collaborative, team-oriented atmosphere.
Requirements
- LIC-Registered Nurse - Licensure-Others
- Relevant Work Experience
- Graduate of an approved discipline specific program
Nice To Haves
- EGS, trauma, ED, or surgical floor experience a plus

Responsibilities
- Applies the nursing process to plan and implement the care of patients, including patient and family education and continuum of care planning.
- Effectively communicates pertinent patient/family information to the health care team.
- Collaborates in establishing patient goals and evaluates progress to ensure effective outcomes.
- Furthers professional growth by engaging in learning activities according to the Board of Nursing standards.
- Collaborates in establishing the plan of care, coordinates and implements care delivery while anticipating patient care needs across the continuum.
- Analyzes comprehensive information pertinent to the patient's care and management to determine nursing diagnosis.
- Continually utilizes the nursing process to evaluate patient's progress towards goals and applies appropriate interventions to ensure effective outcomes.
- Employs strategies to promote health and a safe and healthy environment.
