About The Position

The Louisiana Special School District (LSSD) is an education service agency that provides services to the Louisiana Special Schools (Louisiana School for the Deaf, Louisiana School for the Visually Impaired and Special School Programs). The schools provide educational opportunities to students with low-incidence disabilities and a variety of unique needs. This is a part-time position, working an average of 24-30 hours per week. The employee will ONLY be paid for ACTUAL HOURS WORKED. The work schedule will vary depending on the needs of the agency. This will be determined by the Nurse Manager at the time of the need for coverage.

Requirements

• Possession of a current Louisiana Registered Nurse license or a temporary permit or multi-state license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC/eNLC) state to practice as a registered nurse
• Two years of experience as a licensed registered nurse
• A bachelor's degree in nursing plus one year of experience as a licensed registered nurse
• A master's degree in nursing or public health plus one year of experience as a licensed registered nurse
• A doctorate in nursing or public health.

Responsibilities

• Provides comprehensive nursing care, promotes student wellness, manages chronic conditions, responds to medical emergencies, and supports individualized health plans (IHPs) for students with special needs.
• Serves as a clinical resource and mentor to other school health staff, ensuring adherence to public health guidelines and best practices.
• Collaborates closely with educators, families, and community partners to create a safe, healthy learning environment that supports academic success and student well-being.
• Writing of Independent Health Plans and Emergency Care Plans.
• Coordination of a weekly Pediatric Clinic with a pediatrician.
• Participates in ongoing trainings for school and residential staff, including child-specific health training.
• Full duties as a Registered Nurse in a school setting.
