About The Position

At the Long Island State Veterans Home, Registered Nurses are critical members of the team who diagnose and treat responses to actual or potential health problems using nursing methods and techniques, including case finding, health teaching, and counseling. They provide care that supports and restores health and well-being while adhering to a medical regimen. The facility is a 24/7 skilled nursing facility serving honorably discharged U.S. Armed Forces veterans, their spouses, and Gold Star parents. This is an essential position: during emergencies, employees may be required to remain at their work location or report to work. Pass days and shifts may change as necessary to meet facility operating needs. The position may require wearing respiratory protection, which may prohibit facial hair. Working conditions may involve exposure to infectious disease, blood, body fluids, tissue, accidents, injuries, and illness. Employees may need to handle unpredictable emergency and crisis situations and may occasionally face irregular hours and pressure from multiple calls and inquiries. Before starting, the selected candidate must clear a background investigation, pass a pre-employment physical examination and receive medical clearance from the Long Island State Veterans Home Employee Health Department, complete an electronic reference check with at least three professional references, and provide copies of required licenses or certificates. Failure to meet these requirements may delay the start date or result in revocation of the employment offer. The Long Island State Veterans Home is a tobacco-free environment, including its parking lots and outdoor areas.
