The Registered Nerve Conduction Study Technologist will communicate with patients to explain procedures, obtain clinical history, confirm understanding, and address questions. They will review medical records to confirm ordered tests and maintain active communication with physicians regarding testing preferences. The technologist will prepare patients for procedures by applying electrodes, administering stimuli, and recording evoked responses. They will measure distances, amplitudes, latencies, and temperatures, and distinguish between normal and abnormal results, managing artifacts. Accurate record-keeping and documentation in the computer system are essential. The role also involves organizing and preparing exam rooms, cleaning and calibrating equipment, and reporting malfunctions. Patient positioning and transporting duties, requiring lifting and pushing/pulling with proper technique, are also part of the responsibilities. The technologist must demonstrate knowledge and skills for age-appropriate patient care, understanding growth and development principles.
