Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) - Outpatient Clinic
About The Position
The Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) will perform various duties within an outpatient clinic setting. Responsibilities include taking vital signs, performing urine drug screens, assisting with tele-psychiatry sessions, drawing blood, administering long-acting injections, assisting with Suboxone/Spravato administration, managing the nurse line, processing medication refills, and completing prior authorizations for medication. The role also involves general clinic duties such as charting, maintaining communication, stocking supplies, and assisting with medication education. This is a safety-sensitive position subject to drug and alcohol testing.
Requirements
- High school graduate or have HS equivalent.
- Knowledge of professional nursing practice care techniques and medical procedures, medical supplies, sanitation, and personal hygiene, and of nutrition.
- Skills in planning, organizing, and applying nursing care techniques working with clients with mental illness and co-occurring disorders.
- Ability to administer Clinic Opiate Withdrawal Scale (COWS) is required.
- Ability to work with the public.
- Ability to maintain an effective working relationship with agency employees.
- Ability to maintain a professional manner at all times and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Must possess a driver's license and use personal automobile to travel to locations other than primary office.
- Ability to document activities, write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from colleagues, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Ability to effectively communicate and interact with colleagues, clients, client’s families, public and third-party payer personnel.
- Proof of automobile insurance required.

Responsibilities
- Review daily schedules to identify in-clinic providers and clients needing specific services (vitals, UDS, tele-psychiatry, lab draws, injections, medication administration).
- Monitor chat rooms for walk-in clients requiring immediate attention.
- Perform and document vital signs, communicating abnormal results to providers.
- Conduct and document urine drug screens (UDS) as per protocol.
- Log clients into tele-psychiatry sessions and assist with documentation.
- Sanitize office areas between clients.
- Verify and process lab orders, perform lab draws using aseptic technique, and document in client charts.
- Conduct vitals and verify injection details before administering long-acting injections.
- Administer Suboxone/Spravato and monitor medication effects, including conducting and documenting the Clinic Opiate Withdrawal Scale (COWS).
- Assess live calls/messages for medication needs, responding within specified timeframes.
- Review prescription programs for refill requests, process refills per protocol, and notify clients.
- Review and complete prior authorization forms for medications, notifying clients of outcomes.
- Complete daily charting and maintain team communication.
- Store mobile devices during work hours.
- Ensure cleanliness of the clinic, stock supplies, and assist with medication education.
- Attend training events and assist with post-meal cleanup.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.
