About The Position

Jean Tweed is a community-based organization dedicated to supporting women with substance use, mental health, and gambling concerns. The Child Development Centre provides a nurturing environment for children to play, learn, and reach developmental milestones while supporting mothers in achieving their parenting goals. This role is crucial in building capacity to enhance support for women facing these challenges.

Requirements

  • Diploma or Degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE/RECE).
  • Must be a registered member in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators.
  • A minimum of two years’ experience in the field of Early Childhood Education for the full-time position.
  • Emergency first aid, CPR training level C.
  • Up-to-date Immunizations.
  • Proof of two-step TB test.
  • A current and clear Police Vulnerable Sector check.
  • Knowledgeable in working with women who have substance use/gambling concerns.
  • Familiar with relevant legislation, e.g., Child Care and Early Years Act and Child Youth and Family Services Act.
  • Ability to build trust and positive relationships with families.
  • Ability to be energetic, resilient, and maintain a sense of humour.
  • A high degree of personal initiative with good planning and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assess the abilities, needs, and interests of children and monitor their progress or challenges.
  • Engage children in activities to stimulate and develop their intellectual, physical, and emotional growth, ensuring their security and well-being.
  • Demonstrate an understanding and ability to adhere to policies and procedures in the centre, as well as expectations from the Ministry of Education, Toronto Children’s Services, and Toronto Public Health.
  • Develop and implement a daily activity schedule for children, including child-directed activities, care routines, and transition times.
  • Provide opportunities for child-directed play experiences and activities that encourage problem-solving.
  • Offer experiences and play materials that actively promote diversity and acceptance in interactions and attitudes.
  • Observe how children use materials and interact with peers and adults, recording daily observations.
  • Use observations to expand play and plan learning activities.
  • Discuss each child’s progress with parents and encourage their participation in their children's development.
  • Build positive relationships with parents and assist them in meeting their goals.
  • Participate in the planning, development, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of programs.
  • Carry out independent attachment activities and parent/child activities or exercises within the team.
  • Promote a healthy and safe environment within the Child Development Services team.
  • Attend professional development training programs.
  • Assume additional responsibilities as the situation demands.
  • Conduct job responsibilities with a commitment to harm reduction, trauma-informed, women-centred, and anti-oppressive practices.
  • Abide by the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and work in a manner that is safe, reporting incidents immediately to the direct supervisor.
  • Adhere to the policies and procedures of The Jean Tweed Centre.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet the overall goals and objectives of The Jean Tweed Centre.
  • Maintain a client service orientation, including learning about and addressing client needs and concerns.
