About The Position

This is an independent contractor opportunity for a Registered Dietitian to provide maternity leave coverage at Casa Mia Care Home in Vancouver, B.C. The role involves interviewing residents, developing therapeutic diets, documenting nutritional needs, and collaborating with the care team. The position is temporary and part-time, requiring 2-3 days per week, ideally including Tuesdays for care conferences. The contract duration is from August 2026 to August 2027. Casa Mia Care is a new 90-bed long-term care facility housed in a historic mansion, offering a professional environment that supports growth and excellence in care.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited school of Dietetics and completion of Dietetic Internship.
  • A Registered Dietitian under College of Health and Care Professionals of BC (CHCPBC).
  • Minimum of one year's experience in the food service field.
  • At least six months in a long-term care facility.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with health care professionals, community workers, staff, volunteers, families and visitors.
  • Knowledge and competency in dysphagia management, enteral nutrition, and nutrition support practices in a long-term care or healthcare setting.

Responsibilities

  • Interview each resident within the first two weeks of admission, then annually, or as required to determine preferences, allergies and therapeutic requirements.
  • Develop therapeutic and special diets according to resident requirements.
  • Include documentation of resident interviews and annual assessments in residents' charts.
  • Inform the Director of Care and Chef of any special requirements or changes to residents' nutritional status.
  • Provide written documentation for the Inter-disciplinary care planning meetings and attend when requested.
  • Contribute to the care plan for each resident, documenting dietary needs and requirements.
  • Provide documentation on the quarterly MDS assessment for each resident.
  • Represent the interests of the facility when communicating with health care professionals, community workers, staff, families, visitors, and volunteers.
