About The Position

Sol de Janeiro is seeking an exceptional Interim Head of Global Creative to provide maternity leave coverage for their SVP, Global Creative. This is a high-impact executive assignment for a seasoned creative leader who can seamlessly step in, lead a large multi-disciplinary team, and drive brand-building creative at the highest level. The role involves leading a 35+ person Creative Department across Creative Design, Brand Voice, Packaging Design, and Creative + Marketing PMO. The successful candidate will develop and execute forward-thinking brand creative under the direct leadership of the CEO and in close partnership with the 360 Marketing Team, ensuring all output aligns with Sol de Janeiro’s strategic vision, prestige positioning, and joyful brand ethos. The ideal candidate possesses the eye of a world-class creative director and the operational command of a proven department head. Requirements

  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in creative leadership for global brands, with a demonstrated track record of building highly strategic, integrated omni-channel creative across all disciplines.
  • Beauty industry experience required.
  • Proven ability to lead large, multi-disciplinary creative departments.
  • Ability to direct and coach, while also rolling up sleeves when needed.
  • Celebrated Executive-level cross-functional collaborator — equally fluent in creative vision and business strategy; capable of connecting creative output to brand equity and commercial performance.
  • Deep experience managing external agencies and holding them to rigorous brand standards.
  • Celebrated people manager, inspiring mentor, and proven team builder with a coaching mindset.
  • Portfolio demonstrating executed, ground-up 360 omni-channel brand Creative across branding, packaging and Omni-channel campaigns.
  • Well versed in Brand Storytelling and Commercial landscape.
  • Excellent public speaking, presentation, and listening skills; able to tailor communication style expertly to any audience, from Creative teams to the C-suite.

  • Must be present in the NYC office 3 days per week.

Responsibilities

  • Step in for the SVP, Global Creative with a structured overlap period to shadow, onboard, and offboard strategically, ensuring full continuity of existing workflows and priorities.
  • Under the vision of the CEO and in close partnership with Senior Marketing Leaders, lead all brand creative for Sol de Janeiro, from omni-channel campaign concepting to GTM delivery.
  • Develop immersive, breakthrough brand storytelling and campaign concepts that work across all channels and touchpoints, globally.
  • Deeply internalize Sol de Janeiro’s brand DNA, including its relationship to Brazilian art, history, and cultural influence, and ensure this heritage is reflected consistently across all creative output.
  • Leverage performance data, consumer insights, brand strategy, and product team input to inform forward-thinking, consumer-first creative concepts.
  • Oversee the development, maintenance, and elevation of Brand Guidelines and channel-, campaigns with internal and external parties.
  • Coach teams towards AI integration across all 4 disciplines.
  • Train, mentor, and empower all team leads to operate at the highest level, fostering cross-functional collaboration, shared learnings, and continuous improvement across all disciplines.
  • Direct executive leadership across Creative Design (Art direction, brand image, campaign concepting and campaign design execution across 360 touchpoints, overseeing all visual details of internal and external productions), Brand Voice (Copy direction across all channels and touchpoints; ensuring a consistent, distinct, and culturally resonant brand voice globally), Creative + Marketing PMO (End-to-end project management oversight ensuring flawless workflow design, on-time delivery, and process improvement, striving toward continuous improvement of timelines and process clarity toward excellence across the creative organization. This includes budget management for all creative spend with an eye to cost-efficiencies and ROI), and Packaging Design (Leadership of packaging creative, ensuring all structural and graphic design decisions reinforce brand positioning and prestige standards).
  • Serve as the primary creative voice in executive partnerships across Product Marketing, Brand Comms, Consumer Insights, and Commercial teams.
  • Build fast-forming, productive cross-functional relationships with fellow functional leaders.
  • Ensure all creative output aligns with both short-term business priorities and long-term brand equity goals, consistently connecting creative decisions to measurable brand and commercial outcomes.
  • Lead stakeholder reviews, present creative vision clearly and compellingly to executive audiences, and manage expectations cross-functionally when timelines or resources create tension with executional excellence.
  • Collaborate with GTM Team and fellow Global Leads to establish Regional Toolkit Cascades and Post-Mortem Review processes, ensuring Regional Teams receive actionable, consistent feedback that upholds Brand Equity and Growth goals.
  • Oversee all work produced by both internal studio teams and external creative agencies, ensuring every output upholds Sol de Janeiro’s Global Brand Standards and Creative Directives.
  • Extend in-house leadership standards to all external partners; serve as the final creative authority on agency output.
  • Executive oversight of all creative budgets owned by Creative & Marketing Operations across contractors, external agencies, and production ensuring spend is strategic, efficient, and aligned with brand priorities.
  • Maintain a robust professional network; leverage relationships to access best-in-class talent and partners quickly when needed.
  • Fulfill all company requirements for functional leaders, operating as the senior representative of the Creative function within the broader leadership team.
  • Work in close, ongoing partnership with the CEO and People Experience team to manage team health, departmental communications, performance expectations, and organizational development within the Creative department.
  • Meet regularly with People Experience leadership to proactively address team dynamics, hiring needs, and manager effectiveness.
