About The Position

This is a part-time Registered Dietitian position. The role involves interviewing patients and/or families to gather nutritional history, obtaining food preferences, and assessing patients. The dietitian will document assessments according to hospital policies, recommend nutrition care plans to medical staff, and suggest therapeutic diet modifications and supplemental feedings to physicians. Responsibilities also include ensuring the accuracy of diet orders, calculating nutrient content for tube feedings and TPN/PPN, and providing nutritional guidance and counseling to patients and their families, including providing written materials as needed. The dietitian will also assist the Chief Clinical Dietitian with menu changes and recipe development, oversee food service workers in proper food handling and portion control, report equipment malfunctions, and participate in performance improvement initiatives. ADA Essential Functions are also part of the role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Food, Nutrition or Dietetics, required.
  • Registered Dietitian (RD) within three (3) months of date of hire, required.

Nice To Haves

  • Active member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, preferred.
  • One year acute care experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Interviews patient and/or family for nutritional history.
  • Obtains patient food preferences.
  • Assesses patients and documents in patients’ medical record, according to hospital policies and procedures.
  • Recommends nutrition care plans to medical staff for review and consideration.
  • Recommends therapeutic diet modifications and/or supplemental feedings to physicians for patients.
  • Ensures accuracy of diet order received by checking against physician’s order.
  • Calculates nutrient content of tube feeding, TPN/PPN, and dietary intakes (calorie counts) as ordered by physicians.
  • Provides nutritional guidance and counseling to patients and their families. Provides written material as needed and according to prescribed diet.
  • Assists Chief Clinical Dietitian with changes to patient’s menu, including patient food preferences, and development of standardized recipes.
  • Assists in overseeing food service workers in proper food handing and portion control.
  • Reports any malfunctioning of equipment which may interfere with a safe and smooth operation.
  • Participates in performance improvement initiatives including data collection and reporting on results.
  • Performs related duties, as required.
