The Registered Dietitian (RD) Adult Lung Transplant position competently provides and documents age-appropriate medical nutrition therapy to patients. This role utilizes the nutrition care process for the provision of medical nutrition therapy, assessing age-specific nutritional and educational needs for increasingly complex patients. The dietitian develops individualized nutrition plans of care, monitors patient response, and adjusts plans as indicated. Once competency is determined, the dietitian may modify diets, order snacks/supplements, initiate and manage tube feedings, order measurements like head circumferences, heights, lengths, and weights, and propose orders for vitamins, minerals, pancreatic enzymes, and parenteral nutrition. Effective communication with the healthcare team and food service regarding patient needs is essential. The role also involves serving as a clinical preceptor and educator for healthcare professionals, reviewing learning objectives with dietetic interns and students, and assisting with training new hires. Leadership is demonstrated through involvement in team data collection for process improvement, developing educational materials, and encouraging professional development among team members. For applicable positions, research involvement includes attending research meetings, maintaining CITI certification, assisting faculty with nutritional aspects of research protocols, and providing administrative support for research subject activities, including scheduling, tracking, and documentation. The position requires adherence to the Code of Ethics for the profession of dietetics and accountability for actions and behavior. Patient population care is provided based on the knowledge and skills necessary for age-appropriate and equitable care.
