The Registered Dental Hygienist’s (RDH) general role is to evaluate the patient’s dental hygiene and health and perform and instruct patients on preventative dental care. Regular duties include but are not limited to: removal of calculus stains and plaque from above and below the gum line: apply caries-preventive agents; instruct patients on plaque control and dental hygiene, remove sutures, polish and raconteur amalgam restorations and perform preliminary examinations including, but not limited to, periodontal charting, soft tissue examinations, charting of lesions, existing and missing teeth, classify occlusions and administer local anesthetic, nitrous oxide and oxygen. The following statements for this position reflect only some specific responsibilities and are considered necessary to describe the principal functions of the job as identified and shall not be considered a detailed description of all duties required that may be inherent in the position: Perform dental cleanings (prophylaxis) by scaling, polishing, and removing plaque and tartar from teeth. Conduct oral health assessments, including reviewing patient medical histories and taking vital signs. Apply fluoride treatments and sealants to help prevent cavities and decay. Take, develop, and interpret dental x-rays to aid in diagnosis. Screen for oral health issues, including periodontal disease, cavities, and oral cancers, and report findings to the dentist. Assist the dentist during examinations and procedures by preparing patients and providing support. Educate patients on oral hygiene, nutrition, and other preventive measures to promote overall dental health. Provide personalized recommendations for at-home care based on the patient’s specific dental health needs. Explain the connection between oral health and overall health to patients and encourage good dental hygiene habits. Perform non-surgical periodontal therapies such as scaling and root planning (deep cleanings) for patients with gum disease. Educate patients on the causes and consequences of periodontal disease and provide instructions for periodontal maintenance at home. Maintain detailed, accurate documentation of patient care, including treatment notes, health assessments, and follow-up instructions. Work closely with the mobile dental team, including dentists, hygienists, and administrative staff, to ensure smooth clinic operations and coordinated patient care. Ensure patient records are updated and comply with HIPAA regulations. Follow strict infection control protocols to clean, sterilize, and prepare dental instruments and treatment areas. Ensure compliance with OSHA and other regulatory standards related to safety, sterilization, and infection control in the clinic. Serve as the highest operations lead in the day-to-day functioning of the dental clinic, ensuring smooth operations and addressing any immediate issues. Work closely with dentists, dental assistants, and administrative staff to provide coordinated care for patients. Participate in team meetings and contribute to the development of improved practices and procedures. Will cultivate teamwork, unity, harmony, goodwill and work closely with all members of the employees, staff, executive leadership, and administration. Stay up-to-date with industry best practices, new dental hygiene techniques, and advancements in dental technology. Maintain all necessary certifications, including CPR and state licensure, and ensure compliance with state dental hygiene regulations. Perform additional responsibilities as needed to support the clinic’s operations and ensure a high standard of patient care. Adhere to HIPAA regulations and other relevant laws to protect patient privacy and confidentiality in all communications. Perform other duties as assigned by the executive leadership and administration.
