About The Position

The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) provides direct behavioral support to patients in an acute hospital setting, with a primary focus on crisis response, patient safety, and the prevention of harm. Under the supervision of a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), the RBT implements individualized, evidence-based behavior support plans designed to reduce the use of restrictive interventions and to increase patients’ ability to safely access medically necessary care. This position requires successful completion of Marcus Crisis Prevention Program (MCPP) Level 5 training within the orientation period, with ongoing maintenance of certification and demonstrated competencies as a condition of continued employment. The RBT collaborates closely with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to support patients with complex medical and behavioral needs.

Responsibilities

Provide direct, in-the-moment behavioral crisis intervention and prevention services for children and youth in an acute medical hospital setting under the supervision of Board-Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs), prioritizing patient and staff safety.
Implement individualized, evidence-based behavior support plans for patients with severe problem behavior and complex medical or mental health needs, with the goal of reducing restraint use and increasing access to medically necessary care.
Assist BCBAs in identifying patients at elevated risk for behavioral escalation and consistently implement proactive, antecedent-based strategies to prevent crises across medical care contexts.
Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary medical teams, including nursing, physicians, and mental health providers, to support safe and effective behavioral care during medical procedures, admissions, and treatment routines.
Teach and reinforce functional communication, coping, and regulation skills that reduce behavioral barriers to care and promote patient cooperation with medical treatment.
Engage patients and families through developmentally appropriate behavioral support and education, fostering a trauma-informed, patient-centered, and therapeutic care environment.
Maintain required crisis response competencies, including successful completion of Marcus Crisis Prevention Program (MCPP) Level 5 training within initial orientation and ongoing maintenance of certification and competencies in accordance with hospital policy.
