The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) is a paraprofessional who practices under the close, ongoing supervision of a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) or Board-Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA). The RBT is primarily responsible for the direct implementation of behavior-analytic services. The RBT does not design intervention or assessment plans. It is the responsibility of the BCBA or BCaBA supervisor to determine which tasks an RBT may perform as a function of his or her training, experience, and competence. The RBT is only authorized to perform their services under the direct supervision of a licensed BCBA or BCaBA who is supervising the RBT is that is directly responsible for the work performed on the individual cases they are overseeing.
