About The Position

The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) provides individualized behavioral support to help children and participants successfully engage in YMCA after school programs and activities. The RBT implements established behavior support plans, reinforces positive behaviors, supports skill development, and promotes meaningful participation in a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment.

Requirements

  • Minimum age of 18 years.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Current Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification/credential.
  • Experience working with children or individuals with developmental, behavioral, or support needs required.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to follow individualized behavior support plans and implement interventions consistently.
  • Ability to accurately observe, collect, and document behavioral data.
  • Patient, dependable, attentive, and comfortable providing individualized support.
  • Ability to remain calm and respond appropriately during challenging situations.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with families, YMCA staff, supervisors, and other professionals.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality, professional boundaries, and participant dignity.
  • Commitment to the YMCA's mission, youth protection practices, safety standards, and creating an inclusive environment where all participants can successfully engage.

Nice To Haves

  • Education in behavioral health, psychology, education, special education, child development, or a related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct, one-on-one behavioral support to children and participants in accordance with individualized behavior support plans.
  • Support participants in developing communication, social, behavioral, and daily living skills.
  • Reinforce positive behaviors and skill development using approved strategies and interventions.
  • Collect accurate and objective data on participant behaviors, progress, and program goals.
  • Observe participant behavior and communicate progress, concerns, and changes to the supervising professional and appropriate YMCA leadership.
  • Support participants during YMCA programs, activities, transitions, and routines to encourage successful participation and inclusion.
  • Collaborate professionally with YMCA staff, families, and other members of the participant's support team within the boundaries of the role.
  • Maintain participant dignity, confidentiality, professional boundaries, and appropriate documentation.
  • Follow individualized safety and behavior protocols, including procedures for responding to challenging behaviors.
  • Maintain a safe, supportive, welcoming, and inclusive environment.
  • Follow all YMCA policies related to youth supervision, abuse prevention, professional boundaries, incident reporting, and mandated reporting.
  • Participate in required training, supervision, and ongoing professional development.
  • Maintain required RBT credentialing and competency requirements.
