About The Position

The Vice President of Operations (VPO) is a senior leader responsible for advancing the mission, performance, and resident experience across a portfolio of Life Plan Communities (also known as CCRCs). This role translates organizational vision into meaningful, consistent outcomes and ensuring communities are not only high-performing, but places where residents and team members truly thrive. The VPO oversees 5–10 communities and maintains a strong on-site presence (approximately 40–50% travel) to stay connected to residents and teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 8–12+ years of senior leadership experience in senior living, healthcare, hospitality, or other complex, multi-site environments
  • Demonstrated success leading large-scale P&L performance and multi-site teams
  • RCFE Administrator license (or ability to obtain)
  • Nursing Home Administrator (NHA) license required or ability to obtain within a defined timeframe
  • Ability to travel 40-50% of the time

  • Master’s (MBA, MHA, or similar) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Lead the overall performance of multiple communities, balancing operational excellence with a deep commitment to resident-centered living
  • Guide and develop Executive Directors, building confident, capable leaders who can navigate complexity and drive results
  • Translate organizational strategy into clear priorities and measurable outcomes at the community level
  • Partner across clinical, finance, HR, and sales to ensure aligned execution and strong, sustainable performance
  • Own portfolio-wide financial performance, including occupancy, revenue growth, expense management, and long-range planning
  • Support thoughtful stewardship of resources while identifying opportunities for growth and improvement
  • Lead change initiatives and ensure new systems, processes, and expectations are adopted effectively
  • Maintain strong oversight of regulatory compliance, licensure, and quality standards across communities
  • Proactively identify and address operational, clinical, financial, and reputational risks
  • Foster a culture of accountability, inclusion, and service excellence that reflects the organization’s mission and values
  • Address complex people and performance challenges with clarity, care, and partnership with HR
  • Build leadership bench strength through coaching, succession planning, and ongoing development
  • Serve as a visible and trusted leader with residents, families, boards, and external partners
  • Communicate with transparency and steadiness, especially during times of change or elevated risk
