About The Position

Texas Oncology is seeking a Regional Oncology Float Pool Registered Nurse (RN) to join their Gulf Coast South Regional Float Pool Team. This role provides essential cross-coverage support in Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, and Infusion nursing units, rotating through select clinics throughout the Gulf Coast South Region. The Float Pool offers the support of a dedicated team along with the flexibility of diverse assignments across the Texas Oncology Gulf Coast South Region. This position will be either a level I, II or Senior based on candidate work experience. Texas Oncology is the largest community oncology provider in the country, aiming to make the best available cancer care accessible to all communities. They use leading-edge technology and research to deliver high-quality, high-touch, evidence-based cancer care. The Float Pool RN provides professional nursing care in alignment with national standards, company guidelines, and the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards. The Float Pool RN will serve as a clinical resource and liaison while adapting quickly to diverse assignments.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education, BSN preferred.
  • RN state license and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in practicing state.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Must maintain continuing education requirements.
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience (for Level I).
  • Minimum three (3) years of nursing experience, oncology experience strongly preferred (for Level II).
  • Minimum five (5) years nursing experience, including at least one year in oncology strongly preferred (for Level Senior).
  • Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN®) or prior oncology/infusion/radiation experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong IV and central line skills preferred.
  • Comfort supporting multiple areas of oncology care, with interest in developing skills in subspecialties such as Gyn Onc, BMT, or Pediatrics.
  • Excellent critical thinking and communication abilities.
  • Comfort with EHR systems (OncoEMR, Epic, or similar).
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and strong interpersonal skills to thrive in diverse clinical environments.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, coordinate, and evaluate patient care.
  • Conduct health assessments, obtain patient histories, and provide patient/family education.
  • Offer psychosocial support to patients and families.
  • Safely prepare and administer medications, blood products, and therapies in accordance with governing standards.
  • Perform venipuncture, access ports, and maintain central lines.
  • Monitor labs, facilitate dose modifications per protocol, and consult with providers for treatment orders.
  • Manage triage calls, symptom management, and medication documentation.
  • Assist patients in accessing community resources.
  • Cross-train and expand into subspecialty areas (e.g., Gyn Onc, BMT, Pediatrics) as the Float Pool evolves.
  • Follow the Nursing Float Pool Playbook for role- and assignment-specific expectations.
