About The Position

Performs moderately basic level computer support work. Work involves providing customer support for agency information technology systems and operating automated office equipment in a stand-alone network. Provides intermediate-level support for agency staff, IT systems including troubleshooting, equipment setup, software installation, and basic network maintenance. Delivers customer service and technical assistance to users and may train others. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Requirements

  • Valid driver's license
  • Knowledge of personal computer hardware functions and basic software troubleshooting ability to support end-user hardware and software with daily issues.
  • Possess ability to utilize performance monitoring and capacity management tools.
  • Ability to recognize, analyze and resolve computer system problems.
  • Ability to use Dell personal computers or laptops released by manufacturers within the last four years and Microsoft Office 2010, 2016 and O365 including Excel, Internet Explorer, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Visio (or equivalent).
  • One year’s experience supporting desktop operating systems in a local or wide area network.
  • Experience providing hands-on technical support with customers on computer hardware and software issues.
  • Candidate must have dependable transportation.
  • Requires travel 25%-65% of the time within the region using personal or rented transportation.
  • Occasional out-of-town travel with overnight lodging.
  • Selected applicants must be able to move 50 pounds of computer equipment on a daily basis.
  • Occasional overtime and weekend work are required.

  • Graduation from a two-year accredited college or university with a major in computer science, management information systems, or a related field is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoots and resolves computer-related problems.
  • Sets up equipment for employee use and performs or ensures proper installation of cables, operating systems, or appropriate software.
  • Installs, maintains, moves, and assists in testing and upgrading new and existing hardware or software.
  • Provides customer service and answers user inquiries regarding computer software, hardware operation, and the use and interface of systems and software applications.
  • Performs procedures for backup, recovery, and archival of files stored on the network.
  • Assists in preparing training courses and providing user support and training in the use of available hardware, software, and utilities.
  • Assists in performance tuning and capacity planning activities to enhance the performance of the network resources and in maintaining network support software.
  • Assists in or conducts product evaluations of upgraded or new hardware and software and identifies strengths, weaknesses, and potential benefits to the agency.
  • Assists in maintaining the operating system and security software utilized on the network, including the addition of new users to the network and establishment of rights and privileges.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
