General Dynamics Mission Systems, IncPittsfield, MA
$124,397 - $138,003Hybrid

About The Position

General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS) is seeking a Release Train Engineer to facilitate and own ART-level ceremonies, drive cross-team coordination, and align agile delivery with program milestones and contractual commitments. This role involves identifying and escalating impediments, shielding teams from disruption, and coaching Scrum Masters. The engineer will own and improve the flow of work across the ART using metrics, coordinate with various functional leads, and build relationships to solve cross-cutting problems. The position is on-site in Pittsfield, MA, with some flexibility, and offers a hybrid work environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, or a related Science, Engineering or Mathematics field, plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree, plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Department of Defense Secret security clearance is preferred, but must be obtainable within a reasonable amount of time after hire.
  • Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Direct experience operating within DoD program structures (EVMS, IMS, CDRLs, IBR, control accounts) and the ability to connect that world to agile delivery
  • Track record of facilitating PI Planning or equivalent large-scale planning events
  • Experience coaching and developing Scrum Masters, not just running ceremonies yourself
  • Ability to work across engineering disciplines (software, systems, integration, test) and keep everyone pulling in the same direction
  • Comfort operating in environments with classification requirements, contractual constraints, and government oversight
  • Clear understanding of systems engineering concepts, principles, theories, and technical standards
  • Strong enough technically to understand what the teams are building and where the real risks are
  • Interest in the DPME career path with a desire to lead through process, influence, and trust, not authority
  • Creative thinker with ability to grasp and apply new information quickly and handle increasing responsibilities with growing complexity
  • Team player who builds trust across organizational boundaries and measures success by what the teams deliver, not personal visibility
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development for yourself and others
  • Identifies opportunities to apply AI for continuous improvement and innovation

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate and own ART-level ceremonies (PI Planning, Scrum of Scrums, Inspect & Adapt, System Demos) across multiple teams
  • Drive cross-team coordination, dependency management, and integration planning across the Release Train
  • Partner with Control Account Managers and program leadership to align agile delivery with EVM milestones, IMS gates, and contractual commitments
  • Identify and escalate systemic impediments, whether technical, organizational, contractual, or process-related, and drive them to resolution
  • Shield teams from external disruption while keeping leadership informed with clear, honest reporting on progress, risk, and trade-offs
  • Coach Scrum Masters and team leads on agile best practices, continuous improvement, and how to operate effectively within DoD program constraints
  • Own and improve the flow of work across the ART, using metrics (flow load, throughput, cycle time, predictability) to drive decisions, not just status
  • Coordinate with Systems Engineering, Integration & Test, and other functional leads to keep the program technically coherent
  • Build relationships across the program that make cross-cutting problems easier to solve, not harder

Benefits

  • An exciting career path with opportunities for continuous learning and development.
  • Research oriented work, alongside award winning teams developing practical solutions for our nation’s security
  • Flexible schedules with every other Friday off work, if desired (9/80 schedule)
  • Competitive benefits, including 401k matching, flex time off, paid parental leave, healthcare benefits, health & wellness programs, employee resource and social groups, and more
